Our theme uses data and applies health economics and evaluation to explore and address the health and care needs of our region. The insights we generate strengthen the effectiveness of services and support improved wellbeing for communities locally and beyond.
As pressures on health and care services continue, and needs become more complex, high-quality evidence is vital in designing health and care services that are effective, equitable and sustainable. Using data and conducting robust evaluations (including health economics) are essential in understanding the needs of our populations, evaluating new models of care and ensuring that resources are used to deliver greatest benefits.
What do we aim to achieve?
We will measure and understand people’s health and social care needs, analyse and promote their preferences, and evaluate approaches that support these needs to improve and prioritise services. We will enhance healthcare by improving the use of routinely collected data, leading evaluations of evidence, and applying data‑driven insights to strengthen the workforce. Through our research, we will identify how health and social care needs should be prioritised and delivered regionally and nationally. We will increase regional analytical capacity to support long‑term improvement for researchers and the health and care workforce.
This cross‑cutting theme will support other research themes in the ARC East of England to make better use of data and analytical methods. In parallel, we also deliver our own research programme. By working closely with ARC research themes and partners across health and social care, we will ensure our evidence drives meaningful service improvement.
