The mission of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. We do this by:
- Funding high quality, timely research that benefits the NHS, public health and social care;

NIHR is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care. Its work in low and middle income countries is principally funded through UK international development funding from the UK government.
More about the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East of England
The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East of England (ARC East of England) brings together Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, five regional universities, local authorities, health and care providers, community groups, members of the public, third-sector organisations, industry partners, and Health Innovation East. Together, we deliver high‑quality applied health, public health and social care research across the region and beyond.
NIHR ARC East of England is a five‑year investment from the NIHR across 10 ARCs, running from April 2026 to March 2031, with £15.3 million in funding.
