Funding and time commitment

The Fellowship programme is funded by 'backfill'. This means we pay your organisation to release you from your normal duties. We will fund up to a maximum of £12,500 across the 12-month programme.

How much time to do I need to give to the programme?

The Fellowship programme is a one-day a week programme, across a 12-month period.

When will the programme run?

April 2025 until March 2026

How much funding is available for the programme?

Fellow’s normal duties are backfilled for one day a week up to a maximum of £12,500 across the 12-month programme. Any funding gap between the backfill and the fellow's salary will need to be covered by Fellow’s employing organisation.

Do fellows take a cut in salary if their salary exceeds the maximum amount? How do finances work?

The aim of the backfill is to allow the employing organisation to bring in someone else to cover the person who is going to do the fellowship so that the fellow has the “protected time” and is not then pulled back into their job because of workload pressures.

If it costs the organisation more than £12,500 to cover that person’s role, the employing organisation would need to fund the gap. This shouldn’t impact the fellows salary as the funding is a contribution to the employer.
