Covid-19 vaccine uptake and hesitancy in children and young people: a systematic review

A review of Covid-19 vaccine uptake and hesitancy in children and young people.

Introduction

Vaccination is an effective intervention to reduce morbidity and mortality from Covid-19 across all ages. However, different ages have different experiences and face different challenges regarding vaccination that impacts on vaccination uptake. Younger people have experienced particular difficulties through covid lockdown and on vaccination responses. Understanding these experiences and effective strategies to address challenges in this group could help inform the delivery of future vaccination efforts and are important to get right as experiences could affect additional vaccination strategies and health engagement in general. Understanding which and how strategies addressed inequalities and promoted access of vaccines to those who needed them the most are crucial as healthcare systems plan for future waves and strive to improve engagement and health for, in particular, underserved communities.

Project aims

  1. To identify the range of evidence about promoting Covid-19 Vaccine uptake and reducing hesitancy in children and young people (CYP)
  2. To identify and contextualise the potential strategies to address vaccine hesitancy in CYP
