Inclusive research with perinatal women in prisons

Each month, ARC East of England’s Inclusive Involvement in Research team hosts a Community of Practice focused on exploring innovative approaches to involving diverse communities in research.

About the event

ARC East of England’s Inclusive Involvement in Research team is hosting its monthly Inclusive Research Community of Practice. This online informal meeting is a space to share inclusive research methods, explore practical approaches, and reflect on challenges and successes.

In this session, Dr. Laura Abbott will discuss the Lost Mothers study. This research explores the effects of mandatory separation of babies from women involved in the Criminal Justice System. It addresses critical gaps in evidence and decision-making processes affecting pregnant women in prison, building on a growing body of research into their experiences. This study was developed in collaboration with the charity Birth Companions and a lived experience team, whose insights have informed and shaped its direction.
