Written applications only (no interviews)

Please note that applicants will be assessed solely on the strength of their written application. Interviews are not part of the selection process. For this reason, we strongly encourage early and meaningful engagement with academic supervisors before submitting your application.

The role of academic supervisors in supporting application development

Consultation with academic supervisor is intended to be a collaborative and constructive process. Supervisors can provide valuable input to help refine your project idea and strengthen your written application. This ensures your project is well-developed, feasible, and ready to begin at the start of the Fellowship year.

For Impact Fellowship applicants

Applicants to the Impact Fellowship are also encouraged to connect with an Impact Advisor, who will work alongside the academic supervisor as part of your supervisory team. Engaging with both an academic supervisor and an Impact Advisor early in the process will help you develop a competitive and impactful proposal.

Finding the right academic supervisor or Impact Advisor

To help you get started, we offer a:

Directory of Potential Supervisors

This is not an exhaustive list. Experienced academics from the University of East Anglia, University of Essex, University of Hertfordshire, University of Cambridge, and Anglia Ruskin University may also act as academic supervisors.

If you're unsure who to contact, we recommend reaching out to the NIHR ARC East of England Academic Career Development Coordinator: arceoe.rcd@uea.ac.uk

The ACD Coordinator can provide guidance on identifying and approaching potential academic supervisors or Impact Advisors.

Please note: Support from the ACD Coordinator will be available until 28 November 2025. After this date, applicants are welcome to contact supervisors directly.

Important Notice on academic supervisor and Impact Advisor availability

Academic institutions close for the Christmas break starting 19 December 2025. During this period, academic staff will likely be unavailable and unable to provide application support.

Applying without a supervisor

You can still apply without a named supervisor or Impact Advisor. If your application is successful, we will help you identify a suitable supervisor before the programme start date.
