About Laila's fellowship project
Title: Health Empowerment Project for Bangladeshi and South Asian Women.
This project aims to improve health and wellbeing among South Asian women, particularly women from the Bangladeshi community by strengthening access to culturally appropriate health information, support and services. The project matters because women can experience barriers to accessing healthcare, including language and communication difficulties, cultural expectations, limited health literacy, low confidence and challenges navigating health and social care services.
The project will work through trusted community setting and existing women's groups to create opportunities for women to discuss health and wellbeing, increase awareness of prevention and early intervention, and build confidence in accessing appropriate services. It will also support better communication and knowledge sharing between community organisations, health and care services and local communities.
The project is expected to improve women's knowledge, confidence and ability to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. For the organisation it will improve learning and evidence about their effective approaches to engaging underserve communities and supporting more inclusive, prevention-focused services. The findings will help inform future practice, participation working and service development, with the potential to reduce inequalities and improve experiences and outcomes for services users.
