About Jenny's fellowship project
Title: From Insight to Action: Co-designing a Community-Led Health Intervention
This ARC Impact Fellowship builds on earlier research that combined Emergency Department attendance data from Basildon Hospital with community listening sessions. That work showed that some Emergency Department attendance may be preventable with earlier support and is often linked to difficulties accessing services, uncertainty about where to go for help, and wider social challenges that affect health and wellbeing.
The Fellowship will use community insight and lived experience to co-design practical ways to help residents access the right care earlier, before health concerns reach crisis point. It aligns with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust’s Social Spark programme by putting local people at the centre of the process and recognising residents as experts in their own experiences.
Drawing on lived experience, local expertise and examples of good practice, the project will explore how proven ideas can be adapted to meet local needs. The aim is to develop a practical model that could support neighbourhood health, strengthen care closer to home, reduce pressure on hospital services, and improve outcomes for local communities.
