Joseph is a Consultant in Palliative Care at St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich and a researcher in NIHR ARC East of England’s Palliative and End-of-Life Care theme.
Joseph is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge and the University of Suffolk. His work focuses on public health approaches to palliative care, compassionate communities, and social responses to death, dying, and loss.
He trained in medicine at Imperial College London and subsequently held an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Palliative Medicine at University College London. In 2020, Joseph was awarded an Alzheimer’s Society Clinical Training Fellowship, through which he explored the role of compassionate communities in supporting people affected by dementia. This work informed his PhD, completed at UCL in 2024, which examined how community-based approaches can enhance care, connection, and support for individuals and families facing progressive illness.
Joseph’s ongoing research seeks to understand and translate the values and experiences associated with loss into practical, scalable approaches that strengthen community capacity, reduce health inequalities, and improve support at the end of life.
