Imranali Panjwani

Researcher

Dr. Imranali Panjwani is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Anglia Ruskin University and Head & Founder of Diverse Legal Consulting, a consultancy specialising in country expert reports for MENA asylum seekers. He has lived, studied and worked in the UK, Middle East and Australia as an academic, lawyer, chaplain and community worker for charities.

His research work combines his multi-disciplinary interests in Islamic & Western law, philosophy and scripture, ethics and education to improve access to justice, well-being and human rights for minority communities. These interests developed from both his academic and seminary training having been educated in law at the University of Sheffield and University of Law, pursuing Islamic theological and language studies at Al-Mahdi Institute, Birmingham and Jami’at al-Mustafa, Mashhad and obtaining his PhD in Theology & Religious Studies at King’s College London.

Drawing upon his diverse legal, cultural and religious experiences and teaching of both medical and family law, his projects within healthcare focus on developing spiritual care models for patients in palliative care; training nurses and medical practitioners at Farleigh Hospice to consider patients’ cultural needs and creating safe spaces within community settings to discuss medical ethical issues.

In 2021, Imranali was awarded the ‘Highly Commended Award - Access to Justice’ by the UK Diversity Legal Awards in recognition of his efforts in improving access to justice for asylum seekers. His country expert reports have been commended by law firms and judges in the UK. He also won the 'Excellent Teaching Award in Business & Law' in 2022 at Anglia Ruskin’s Made a Difference Awards.

Ultimately, Imranali is driven by a deep, abiding care for those less fortunate than us. His research work is both theoretical and practical in order to increase harmony and well-being in society, as per what the Electronic Immigration Network commented in their 2024 news article about his work.

He is open to collaboration with other researchers and accepts PhD students within his fields of interest.
