Dr Elizabeth Weir is a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge and a researcher in NIHR ARC East of England’s Mental Health and Wellbeing theme.
Elizabeth's research focuses primarily on the outcomes of autistic people in the areas of health, healthcare, educational attainment, and employment.
In particular, Dr Weir is dedicated to better understanding the mental health challenges of autistic people, including their risk of suicide. She is part of several projects related to suicide prevention at the ARC and is currently leading a project that will produce the first nationally representative and UK-specific statistics on suicide among autistic people.
Dr Weir’s work has been published in top journals, such as The Lancet Psychiatry, JAMA Pediatrics, and Nature Communications, and her TEDx talk has been viewed over 30,000 times. Outside of her research, Dr Weir supervises students in biology, medicine, and psychology, and mentors both undergraduate and postgraduate students with accessibility and disability support needs at the University of Cambridge.
