Health, Care or Voluntary Sector Role: Locum General Practitioner
Supporting Organisation: Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board
I am a portfolio general practitioner working at the interface of clinical practice and research. My clinical work spans scheduled and unscheduled primary care services, including prison healthcare. I have leadership experience in clinical research delivery in primary care and is currently a principal investigator for several studies. I am the current recipient of the John Stevens Award from the East Anglian Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners in recognition of my contribution to primary care.
My aspiration as a general practitioner is to advance the provision of evidence-based primary care, especially for underserved populations.
About Olajide's fellowship project
Title: Research Delivery in Correctional Facilities in Norfolk: Barriers and Solutions.
It is a current national health policy ambition that research activity should be embedded in all health and care settings. People in prison are vulnerable and experience a range of health inequalities, which necessitates a tailored approach to their complex healthcare needs. Therefore, they have healthcare needs for which interventions cannot just be transposed from the community.
As identified by the NIHR-INCLUDE project, addressing the lack of representation of people in alternative residential circumstances, such as the prison population, in health research requires establishing a baseline to understand the gaps and contributing factors better.
This project addresses the need for inclusive research. It aims to enhance the delivery of clinical research within the prison population by identifying the barriers to research delivery and proposing actionable solutions.
