Health, Care or Voluntary Sector Role: Research Facilitator

Supporting Organisation: Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust

I have worked in research at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS trust for over ten years, predominantly as a Research Facilitator, supporting our services to adopt and deliver NIHR research, but also as one of the Research Managers. I have lead the Research Champions Programme at CCS since its inception in 2019.

My motivation for joining the ARC Impact Fellowship is to gain new knowledge and skills that will support me to effectively lead the growth of the Research Champions Programme (RCP) as we engage in opportunities to scale up the programme into 2025/26 and beyond.

About Samantha's fellowship project

Title: Expanding the Research Champion Programme (RCP) and informing the offer of the RCP to external organisations

We know that research active organisations have better outcomes for patients and staff, that multiple national frameworks position research as 'everyone's business', that there is an expectation for ICB's to maximise research benefits across the system and that many registered health-care professionals are required to demonstrate competency against research pillars of professional frameworks. Identifying and implementing ways to support these drivers however can be a challenge. The RCP has been delivered in across regions of CCS NHST and shown to have demonstrable benefits. The aims of this project are therefore to explore appetite for RCP adoption across the wider geography of CCS NHST, including exploration with system partners, and in light of this, to identify the appropriate governance arrangements of the programme.
