Health, Care or Voluntary Sector Role: Advanced Occupational Therapist - Critical Care

Supporting Organisation: Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

I am an occupational therapist with over 30 years experience of working with people affected by neurological conditions. In the last few years I have worked within critical care and developed an interest in improving outcomes for people affected by severe brain injury.

My main motivation for joining the programme is to work jointly with family members and healthcare staff to be able to provide better brain injury rehabilitation.

About Joanne's Fellowship Project

Title: Co-production of training for healthcare professionals and family members to enable consistent use of structured sensory stimulation following brain injury

Brain injury can cause a disorder of consciousness (low awareness state) that can last a few days or several years. Structured sensory stimulation can help to improve consciousness, but it is not consistently used. This project aims to improve consistent use of sensory stimulation by developing training programmes for healthcare professionals and patient family members.
