Simon is a clinical-academic in palliative care. He works clinically as a consultant in palliative medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and conducts research as co-lead of the PELiCam palliative and end of life care research group at the University of Cambridge. He also contributes to medical student teaching at the University of Cambridge Clinical School.
Simon's research focuses on improving care for people living with multiple illnesses and clinical syndromes such as frailty. He uses a range of methods including evidence syntheses, qualitative research and mixed methods. He is interested in the uncertainties inherent to complex illness trajectories, and how we can improve patient and carer experience in such situations through improved communication and decision making.
