Project IIRP06

Understanding the meaningful Community Connections that improve individual and collective Health and Wellbeing at the hyperlocal level

Clare Hammerton and Sally Burrows from the University of Essex, and Rachel Williams from Essex County Council want to know what people think is important about their local communities.

Background

Neighbours and local people sometimes help each other. Getting a call from a neighbour, helping in an emergency or just saying ‘Hello’, can help us to feel happy, well, safe, and that we belong. Researchers from the University of Essex and Essex County Council wanted to know what people think is important about their local communities.

Project Activity

Community Connections Essex (CCE) Information

Between January 2021 and June 2022, Clare and Sally spoke with people in four local areas, asking:

  • How do people help each other?
  • How can your local community benefit from increased understanding?
  • What do you want to learn about your local community?
  • How can we learn more together?
  • How would you like to be involved?

This project was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council’s Impact Acceleration Account.
