Emilia Tylenda

Prevention and Early Detection in Health and Social Care Senior Research Assistant

Emilia Tylenda is a Senior Research Assistant based at the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care at the University of Hertfordshire. She is also a core member of Prevention and Early Detection in Health and Social Care theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East of England.

Emilia’s academic background spans the fields of Linguistics, Education, Criminology and Social Sciences. Her research interests include social determinants of health, health disparities, and their relationship with the likelihood of criminal justice contact. She is also interested in food insecurity, its impact on health and wellbeing and ways to address it.

Emilia has worked on a project evaluating a culturally adapted intervention to increase cancer screening uptake among South Asian Muslims. She has also supported the dissemination of research into the cancer treatment experiences of South Asian women and contributed to a study examining food aid usage among older adults. Her forthcoming projects include investigating the relationship between food insecurity and domestic abuse, as well as an initiative to promote healthy eating and home cooking skills in low-income families. She also supports the organisation of community engagement events such as ARC community walks.
