Profile

Angelina Nazarova

Researcher

Dr Angelina Nazarova is an applied economist at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex. Her research focuses on socio-economic disparities, with particular emphasis on gender, health, and family. At ISER, she conducts interdisciplinary research examining the socio-economic impacts of early-life interventions and the institutional factors that shape maternal and child outcomes. Her recent projects include investigating the long-term effects of delivery mode and antenatal interventions in England, discrepancies in healthcare utilisation between migrant and native populations in Denmark, and the “daughter penalty” — how the birth of a girl affects parental labour market outcomes and family dynamics.

Looking ahead, she aims to focus her research more deeply on improving child well-being, with a belief that investing in children is essential to fostering healthier, and more equitable societies.

Angelina holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bologna, an MSc in Economics from the University of Konstanz, and a BSc in Economics with Finance from the University of Westminster. She has held research and teaching roles in academic and policy institutions, including the University of Bologna, the Center for Economic Research in Uzbekistan, and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, DC. She is affiliated with the Royal Economic Society, the European Economic Association, and the Italian Econometric Society (SIdE).
