Dr Angus Holford is an economist at the University of Essex and he is the Co-Theme Lead for NIHR ARC East of England’s Prevention and Early Detection in Health and Social Care theme. In addition, Angus is also a researcher in the ARC East of England's Measurement in Health and Social Care theme, mainly through work on the impacts of local food environments on children’s health outcomes.
Angus is a labour economist by training and background through which has built an ongoing agenda on the impacts of school food policies on children’s health, having led and co-led two grants from the Nuffield Foundation on the impacts of Local Authority-led and national Infant Universal Free School Meal schemes. Angus’ more interdisciplinary work includes having been a co-investigator on NIHR grants on the dietary effects of Free School Meals in secondary schools and to help adapt a healthy eating intervention to Special Schools or those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision.
