Project

Implementing a research-derived tool designed to increase the capability of the CCG to use evidence in its decision making.

Project aims and progress:

This implementation project is taking a tool for assessing the capabilities of NHS commissioning organisations to use evidence (https://www.journalslibrary.nihr.ac.uk/hsdr/hsdr05180#/abstract) and introducing its use in Cambridge and Peterborough CCG. The overall aim is to improve the organisational ability to use evidence and so improve health for individuals and populations.

After initial stakeholder engagement and discussions with the researchers, who designed the tool, it has been adapted for use in its current context and is being produced in a form for the users. Organisational agreement to use the tool is ongoing.

Response to the Covid19 pandemic has produced some substantial delays. Progress to an integrated care system has also been accelerated. The result has been different organisational conversations around decision making, the use of evidence and the role of a commissioning function. Each of these factors has impacted on the adaptations to the tool during this implementation.
