Piers Ricketts is Chief Executive of Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network) and Chair of the national AHSN Network. The AHSNs are funded by the NHS to convene partners from across the NHS, academia, the wider public sector and industry to support the introduction of proven innovations in health and care into the NHS, with the objective of improving health and generating regional economic growth. Some of the AHSNs’ recent national programmes include major initiatives across England to reduce strokes by detecting and supporting patients with atrial fibrillation, and preventing cerebral palsy in pre-term babies. In his role at Eastern AHSN, Piers is based in Cambridge, where his team have supported some of the UK’s leading health and life sciences companies to evaluate and introduce late-stage products and technologies into the local NHS. Piers was previously a management consultant and Partner at KPMG, where he led major transformation projects across the NHS, higher education and the wider public sector.
